Playblast your Animation in Maya

Location: Window > Rendering Editors > Render Settings

  1. Notice there are 2 main tabs:
    1. COMMON

  2. Under the COMMON tab for File Output
    1. Set Image Format to Tiff (tif)
    2. Under File Output Select
    3. Frame/Animation/ext: name.#.ext
  1. Under the COMMON tab for Image Size
    1. Select Pixel aspect
    2. Width: 720
    3. Height: 480
Select: View > Camera Settings > Resolution Gate
Select: View > Select Camera

On the right side of the screen you should see options in the Attribute Editor. If you do not see the Attribute Editor go to Window > Attribute Editor

  1. Notice there are 2 main tabs:
    1. persp (or your camera name)
    2. perspShape (or your camera nameShape

  2. Under the perspShape tab for Film Back
    1. Set Fit Resolution Gate to Overscan
  1. Scroll down until you see Display Options
    1. Set overscan to 1

Select: Window > Playblast > optionbox
Location: Window > Playblast > optionbox
  1. Time Range - choose Time Slider
  2. √ View
  3. Turn off Show ornaments
  4. Viewer - choose Movieplayer to make a .avi choose image viewer to make a frame sequence. Ask your mentor which one to choose.
  5. Display Size - choose Custom in the boxes below set 720 by 480
  6. Set the Scale to 1.00
  7. √ Save to File
  8. Browse to your group's folder to save the file. Give your file a name that will be easily understandable by other group members, such as shot01_myname
  9. click the Playblast button
  10. If you picked image viewer in step 4, individual frames will render to the folder you choose as shot#_myname.####.tif.If you chose Movieplayer an .avi will appear in the folder you chose.
