THE LETTERS OF SUN GEE, Interaction Design

The most curious part... For the sake of desiging the optimal flow of the time based experience it would be good to start understanding

  • where the line is between passive and active experience
  • the zone where personal action does not conflict with listening and watching, or ideally inhances it

The interaction with the environment is limited to affecting first-person camera movement. Possibilities for that range from fully controlling the camera to affecting existant speed and/or introducing a variation in the preset navigation path.

Another possibility for interaction is affecting the environment. Again there is a range of options. On one end there is the use of different events of the time sequence as building blocks, allowing user to spatially arrange the narration by themselves. On the other hand elements of space can change in scale when "touched" by the user.

Human-Computer Interaction

The multiple outputs of this project will include a non-interactive animation movie clip, a web object which is going to provide interaction via traditional means of keyboard and mouse. There will also be an attempt to make an installation that involves a 6x8' (or so) projection, possibly stereo or a touchscreen display. The discussion about human computer interaction below concerns the last two scenarios.

6x8' Projection

It is very much desired that the interaction with the projected environment does not involve any technological device placed in the hands of the viewer, such as game controllers, wiimotes, etc. It would be nice if simple physical movements would affect the view of the environment. Perhaps with the camera suspended above the......
