Type locality: Alabama River, Alabama.
Range: Cape Fear, Cooper-Santee, Savannah, Apalachicola, Mobile, Escambia, and Choctawhatchee River systems.
Remarks: Typically this species is compressed, with the umbo far forward, and an arcuate or concave ventral margin when adult. It is quite thin.
Its range is similar to several other elliptios -- they range from the southern Atlantic Coastal Plain across northern Florida into the Gulf drainages, skipping peninsular Florida. It is usually quite rare, particularly from the Atlantic Slope.
