Elliptio marsupiobesa Fuller, 1972
Northeast Cape Fear River, Duplin Co., NC - 53 mm
Type locality: 0.1 mile downstream from Carvers Creek, about 3 miles SW of Slocomb, and about 6 miles NNE of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina.
Range: Endemic to the Cape Fear River system.
Remarks: This apparently is a rare species. The author compared it with icterina but its closest relative is the equally rare and restricted websterii from the St Johns River in Florida. Marsupiobesa does not seem to get as large as websterii, reaching only ~65 mm in length.
