Elliptio purpurella (Lea, 1857)
Ochlockonee River, Thomas Co., GA - 44 mm
Type locality: Flint River, near Albany, Georgia.
Range: Apalachicola and Ochlockonee River systems.
Remarks: This is a fairly rare species. It is related to tetrica and oscari, but has an inflated, rounded posterior ridge rather than an angled one.
Purpurella was described from the Flint River in the Apalachicola River system. The specimen pictured here, from the Ochlockonee River, is referred to purpurella with reservations - it may represent a distinct species.
