School of Music

Program Overview

Ohio State has long been home to a strong community of music perception and cognition scholars. The University supports music cognition through graduate education, research, post-doctoral fellowships, graduate assistantships, and occasional workshops/symposiums. Music cognition research is sponsored by the Department of Psychology, the School of Music, the Center for Cognitive Science, and the Office of Academic Affairs.

The Music Cognition Group at OSU is housed by the Cognitive and Systematic Musicology Laboratory, administered by the School of Music and spearheaded by Prof. David Huron. The Music Department houses in the same building the Cognitive Ethnomusicology Laboratory, organized by Prof. Udo Will. The School of Music offers coursework in music cognition, and supports graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
