Description: |
This is for a major lecture-performance by Benjamin Bagby, who is a grand figure in early music, having led and performed with the outstanding medieval ensemble Sequentia for some 40 years. He will be talking about, and performing music of, Beowulf, the famous early medieval anglo-saxon saga, for which no music has survived, but for which he has dreamed up a musical setting that he performs with the aid of a reconstructed anglo-saxon crwth (lyre). An elegant, stagey space is necessary for this event because it is being co-sponsored as a 'keynote' in the lecture series of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Music at OSU -- serving as their 'public lecture' for the year -- and also as part of the performance series sponsored by the Early Music in Columbus organization. |
