Amphenol Spectra-Strip Introduces SKEWCLEAR® Plus Cable

Hamden, CT (July 28, 1999) Spectra-Strip has taken high bandwidth differential cable technology a step further with its introduction of "SKEWCLEAR Plus" shielded parallel pairs, designed to improve electrical performance and reduce labor costs associated with stripping shielded twisted pairs.

Currently available up to 34 pairs, the patented SKEWCLEAR Plus cable uses a pre-programmed 2.5" laminate section, applied anywhere along the cable length to fixture the data pairs on a controlled pitch, typically .100". In the round cable format, SKEWCLEAR Plus has markings on the outer PVC jacket to indicate the presence of the laminate section.

The 100 ohm shielded parallel pairs have extremely low in pair skew (<3ps / ft) and pair to pair skew (< 10ps / ft). Near end crosstalk is > 70dB @ 1GHz.

Carl Booth, Director, Product Development said: "Applications such as Future I/O with its sub nanosecond rise times and gigahertz transmission frequencies demand that shielded cable pair strip lengths be kept to an absolute minimum in order to avoid crosstalk and reflections at the connector termination. By mass fixturing all of the pairs in a laminate structure, much more accurate mass stripping of the pairs can be performed with standard flat cable strippers. In addition, the extra labor associated with hand fixturing the pairs for stripping is avoided."
