Title: Bringing Scientific Measurement to Science Education Research Speaker: William (Bill) Boone Department of Educational Psychology University of Miami (Ohio) Abstract: In the field of science education, researchers often attempt to investigate topics such as science teaching and science learning. Surprisingly, many science education studies often do not consider the importance of: 1) vetting potential instruments prior to data collection, 2) monitoring project instrumentation during a research effort, 3) monitoring data quality 4) preparing non-linear data for statistical tests. In this talk Dr. Bill Boone will introduce the concepts of "Objective Measurement" and "Rasch Measurement". Specific attention will be paid to explaining how these concepts can be used to guide and improve the quality of science education research.
