Title: Do Our Tests Make the Grade? Evaluating multiple choice assessments in large STEM classes Speaker: Eric Loken Department of Dept of Human Development and Family Studies Pennsylvania State University Abstract: Institutions serving large undergraduate populations are by necessity functioning much like major testing organizations. Student evaluations are often almost exclusively based on multiple choice tests. And yet very limited resources are available to create and evaluate classroom tests. What procedures are in place to monitor the quality of classroom testing and grading? Using examples from large undergraduate STEM classes, this talk will give an overview of the kinds of evaluation metrics that are available and talk about future opportunities and challenges in undergraduate assessment.
