Büring (2003) offers an influential analysis of contrastive topics like example (6) in this paper in terms of the QUD framework. He uses tree-structured discourses instead of the QUD stack, but (as pointed out by an anonymous reviewer) it isn’t clear that the distinction makes a difference empirically.
