This workshop is designed
for (under)graduate students and faculty across disciplines who plan
to engage in or have recently started to engage in fieldwork-based
research. The goals of the workshop are (i) to explore and exchange
ideas about practical issues of doing fieldwork, and (ii) to continue
building a community of fieldworkers on the OSU campus.
The topics of this year's workshop are (i) making and sustaining
contacts in the field, (ii) fieldwork in different kinds of
communities, and (iii) the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The
program includes a plenary talk by Mark Moritz on a long-term
perspective on fieldwork, a set of round-table discussions led by
researchers working with/in different kinds of communities, and a
panel discussion with two representatives of the IRB. Please see below

This year's workshop follows up on conversations about the challenges
and rewards of doing fieldwork we had during last
year's fieldwork workshop. This workshop was attended by students
and faculty from 18 different departments on campus. Please join us
this year for what promises to be a morning of stories and guidance
for researchers from many disciplines!
The workshop will take place on May 9, 2009 in Jennings Hall (see the program for room details).
The workshop is free! If you plan to attend all or part if, please RSVP to Cynthia Clopper (clopper.1 AT osu DOT edu) by April 27, 2009, so that we can plan breakfast and lunch accordingly.
