Elliptio folliculata (Lea, 1838)
Lake Waccamaw, Columbus Co., NC - 1: 73 mm; 2: 81 mm; 3: 75 mm
Type locality: Savannah River.
Range: ? Savannah and Waccamaw River systems.
Remarks: Like shepardiana and angustata, this is a remarkably elongate and compressed species. The species was described from the Savannah River but it is most common in Lake Waccamaw. However, there is some question as to whether that is the same species.
Folliculata is much smaller than shepardiana, and most specimens are more elongate than angustata.
