The Elliptio shepardiana Group
This group is the most perplexing of the Elliptios. There seem to be more endemics here than in other groups, and most species are rather rare or localized. There are undoubtedly additional species not shown here.
Elliptio angustata (Lea, 1831) - Cape Fear, Cooper-Santee, and Altamaha River systems?
Elliptio fisheriana (Lea, 1838) - Nanticoke, Chester, and Potomac to Pamlico River systems
Elliptio folliculata (Lea, 1838) - Savannah and Waccamaw River systems?
Elliptio lanceolata (Lea, 1827) - Rappahannock, Chowan, and Pamlico River systems
Elliptio nasutilus (Lea, 1863) - Waccamaw and Little Pee Dee River systems, and adjacent counties
Elliptio naviculoides (Lea, 1857) - Altamaha and Ogeechee River systems
Elliptio producta (Conrad, 1836) - Potomac to James River system
Elliptio shepardiana (Lea, 1834) - Endemic to Altamaha River system
Elliptio sp. - Altamaha and Ogeechee River systems
Elliptio sp. - Pocataligo River system
