Type locality: Roanoke River.
Range: Chowan to upper Ohoopee River systems. It appears to be most common in the Tar River. It is a species of rivers and large creeks.
Remarks: This is one the largest species of Elliptio and quite distinct from other members of the complanata group, with which it is usually lumped. The shell is much more elongate than complanata at all stages of growth, but particularly so when a juvenile. It is apparently a rare species.
