Welcome!
Professor Trevon Logan and Professor Stacy Sneeringer have been working on a project that is investigating the impact of HIV/AIDS on fertility rates in Sub-Saharan Africa. Using Demographic and Health Surveys for Sub-Saharan countries and estimates of HIV prevalence by year, they hope to estimate the effects of length and intensity of HIV exposure (which varies by period and by cohort) on fertility patterns in Sub-Saharan Africa. Since numerous scholars have asserted that Africa's demographic transition is stalling, they plan to estimate the effect that HIV has had on fertility to see if the stalling fertility transition can be partially attributed to HIV exposure.
This project is part of the Africa Network at The Ohio State University.
