This project is investigating 40 different Sub-Saharan Nations with a data set of over 10,000 individuals. The data came from Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) for Sub-Saharan countries and UNAIDS.

The map of Africa to the right shows the countries that we have data for highlighted in blue.

The fertility data comes from 11 Demographic and Health Surveys (DHSs). The DHS provide nationally representative, high-quality data that are comparable over time.

Case studies on Zimbawe, Uganda, and Burkina Faso are discussed in the working paper.
