Read the Preparing for Midterm Exams: Using Practice Exams in the "Practice Exams - Preaparing for Midterms" module. This explains how to effectively use practice exams.

Practice Exams for Exam 1 - on Carmen
- Comments:
  - The exam will cover Chapters 13, 14
  - You should be able to do any homework problem in these chapters.
  - For Ch. 13 you should look at the following links. The first two are about the 4 types of solids and their properties based on the attractive forces between the particles. The second link also covers solubility of the 4 types of solids. The third link shows enthalpy diagrams for solution formation which show the enthalpy changes during the formation of a solution and discuss entropy changes, and effects of attractive forces and temp on solubility.
    - Look at the "Types of Solids and Their Properties" Review on the class webpage (in 'Notes' Section).
    - Look at the "Chapter 11/12 & 13 - IAF, Solids, Solubility" Review on the class webpage (in 'Notes' Section).
    - Look at the "Solution Formation and Solubility Effects" Review on the class webpage (in 'Notes' Section).
  - For Ch. 14 you should also look at the following:
    - You need to look at the handout of extra practice problems (which is on the web page - "Homework" link). This contains some questions dealing with the zero-order and second-order integrated rate laws and half-lifes. You can find these and other things by clicking HERE.
  - This is the information page you will get for the exam.
  - There are three practice exams in the Practice Exams module on Carmen. I don't believe you need to use the LockDown Browser. There's a short practice quiz which requires the LD browser. Try that first to get everything set up correctly. I highly suggest using your iPad to take these so you know how the exam works and what it will look like on the iPad.
    Make sure you're set up to use eduroam for WiFi. If you use any of the other WiFi available on campus we don't assure you things will work correctly.
    Use Chrome (best) for taking your exam so make sure you have it installed and know how to use it. I've never had a problem with Firefox. We have had problems with Safari.
    The actual exam may have a different number of questions. Read the "Preparing for Midterm Exams: Using Practice Exams" before using the practice exams. There are also PDF versions and PDF versions of the solutions.
    - If you really want to get the most out of the practice exams take at least some of them as if they were the real thing. If you don't it really won't give you a good idea about how well you know the material. Remember, on the real exam you have to fill blanks for numeric answers and choose answers for other types of questions and that can take 3-5 minutes, which means you actually only have about 65 minutes to actually work on the problems. Try to take the practice exams in 65 minutes. See instructions when at the practice exam link in Carmen.
  - The following are reminders for the exam.
    - You MUST use an allowed calculator with cover removed and put away.
    - NO HATS, HEAD BANDS, OR OTHER HEAD COVERINGS! (except for religious reasons - see Dr. Zellmer before the exam). They must be removed.
    - NO laptops, cell phones, pdas, pagers, mp3 players, watches. Electronics other than your calculator and iPad must be turned off and put away
    - NO pencil cases.
    - No personal scratch paper, only that given to you at the exam.
    - NO food or drinks, unless medically required (see Dr. Zellmer beforehand).

Practice Exams for Exam 2 - on Carmen
- Comments:
  - The exam will cover Ch. 15, 16, 17.1-17.2
  - For Ch 15 should be able to do any problem at the end of the chapter and the ones from the link below.

  - For Ch 16 should be able to do any problem at the end of the chapter. The following link has links for helpful information about acids and bases. I've sent this link in e-mails.

Practice Problems for the New Material and Practice Finals
- Comments:
  - The final is cumulative. It covers the whole semester, chapters 13-17, 19-20, 21.1-21.4 and 23.1-23.4. There's no nomenclature (naming) of complexes from 23.4 and nothing from 23.5-23.6 (CFT). It's 13-15% new material and 85-87% old material. There's a around 50-55 questions.
    Study your practice exams and quizzes. Look at the questions covering the new material (see below). There are also practice questions and practice finals on Carmen.
