IV. SPECTROSCOPIC ENVIRONMENTS

  1. Measurement of Pressure Broadening Parameters for the CO-He System at 4K," Phys. Rev. Lett. 53, 2555-2558 (1984).
      -  Collisional Cooling (aka buffer gas cooling):  a method for the production and study of cold molecules at cryogenic temperatures

  2. "The Production of Large Concentrations of Molecular Ions in the Lengthened Negative Glow Region of a Discharge," J. Chem. Phys. 78, 2312-2316 (1983).
      -  Magnetically enhanced negative glow spectroscopy for a x 100 gain in ion concentration

  3. "Helium induced pressure broadening and shifting of HCN hyperfine transitions between 1.3 and 20 K," J. Chem. Phys. 122, 184319 (2005).
      -  A comparison between experiment and theory for very low temperature collisions

A principal focus of the Microwave Laboratory has been the development and use for scientific studies of non-ambinent environments, especially those which have a symbiotic relation with the millimeter and submillimeter spectral region.
