Dr. Petrill

Dr. Stephen Petrill
Principal Investigator

Stephen Petrill received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Notre Dame in 1990, his Ph.D. in psychology from Case Western Reserve University in 1995, and completed postdoctoral studies at the Social, Genetic, and Developmental Psychiatry Research Centre in London (UK) in 1997. Prior to arriving at Ohio State in 2006, Dr. Petrill held faculty appointments at Wesleyan University (1997-2001) and the Pennsylvania State University (2001-2006). He is associate editor of the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, serves on the review boards of several journals, is the past chair of the Behavioral Genetic and Epidemiology Study Section at NIH, and is currently a member of the Basic Processes Review Panel at the Institute for Education Sciences.

Maggie Beard

Dr. Maggie Beard
Project Director

Maggie Beard joined Dr. Petrill's lab as and undergraduate researcher in the Autumn of 2006. She has held a variety of roles within the lab from lead assessment coordinator of the WRRP study, project coordinator of the WRRP study, project director of the BLS study, and to her most recent role of data analyst across all studies. Maggie graduated from The Ohio State University with a Ph.D. in School Psychology. Her research interests focus on reading and language difficulties, educational disabilities assessment, and pychometric measurement.

Katherine Rhodes

Dr. Katherine Rhodes
Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Katherine Rhodes is an NIH sponsored Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Her research is focused the measurement of mathematical cognition, language ability, and cognitive control, particularly for children who are language minorities in the United States.

Renee Brooks

Renee Brooks
Project Director

Reneé manages federally funded projects and promotes the engagement of new research participants, collaborative faculty investigators & University staff. She is currently pursuing a Masters of business administration at OSU's Fisher College of Business.

Alicia Nunez

Alicia Nunez
Research Assistant

Assists with overall project goals including data collection, processing, and storage. Alicia also assists with formulating questionnaires and establishing recruitment avenues to contact and retain new participants. Alicia is a Master's student in the Education and Human Ecology Department, and working toward a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Madeline Doran

Madeline Doran
Graduate Student

Madeline's research examines the behavioral and neurobiological correlates of language and reading development in children, adolescents, and young adults. Her work specifically investigates how the brain and behavior are influenced by different language experiences in bilingual and multilingual populations.

Lauar Mason

Laura Mason
Graduate Student

Laura's research focuses on language development and impairment in young children. She is also interested in social development in children with autism.
